The Ultimate 2-Day Coast-to-Coast Ride

Experience both sides of the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail — riding to the Bay of Islands on one day and the Hokianga Harbour on the other.
Covering up to 87km across two days, this self-guided adventure combines stunning scenery, rich history, and an easy, flowing ride.

Each day starts from our Kaikohe base — the highest point of the trail — giving you a relaxed downhill ride to each coast. We’ll get you set up with the right bike, provide everything you need, and brief you before you set off.

Starting from the highest point each day means more time enjoying the ride — and less time climbing.

Moderate fitness is required. When heading west, there is a short 1.2km section from Okaihau dropping into the Utakura Valley which is Grade 3, with most of the trail being Grade 1–2.

The trail follows historic rail corridors, quiet countryside, native bush and coastal landscapes — including boardwalk sections over wetlands.

Ride to the Bay of Islands (Kaikohe → Kawakawa / Ōpua)

Enjoy a relaxed downhill ride from Kaikohe toward the Bay of Islands, following historic rail corridors through farmland, native bush and small Northland communities.
