Pou Herenga Tai from south of Kaikohe to Okaihau. Its gentle gradient and smooth surface makes it an easy ride for cyclists of all ages and fitness levels. This section of the cycleway is built on an old rail corridor is 20 kilometres long and features an 80m rail tunnel dating back to 1915.
It passes through the heartland of the Far North giving you extensive rural views out to the Hokianga in the west, Lake Omapere and farmland to the east. Cycling time is two to three hours and there are resting places and photographic opportunities all along the trail.
We can pick you up in Paihia and take you to Kaikohe,where we fit you out with bike and helmet drop you off at the start of the trail and pick you up at the end or you can come directly to our Base at 88 Te Pua Road Kaikohe. You set the pace.
We also offer straight Cycle Hire. You can call in to our Kaikohe depot at 88 Te Pua Road and pick up your cycle. We have secure parking at our depot and can provide transport to and from various locations on the trail.
Our cycles are all modern Giant brand Trailglide and Bolder cycles in a variety of sizes in both mens womens and childrens models. We have step through cycles for women and all have gel seats for your comfort.

Newsflash. More Trail is nearly here. Watch out for some exiting new opportunities for riding the trail. Kawakawa – Opua and Kaikohe -Horeke. Fourteen kms of new trail, West of Okaihau is sooo close. I rode ten kms of it the other day. And it is FANTASTIC, honestly, you will love it. Ask me about it. I will post some photos soon.
****** We now have a range of Hire bikes situated at OPUA MARINA CAFE in Opua to enable you to ride on the partially completed section of Trail from the cafe to Long Bridge Taumarere and back. Only 7kms of highly scenic and flat trail. ********
We have B&B Accommodation available in a quiet rural setting not far from Kaikohe. 88 Te Pua Road. A modern self contained, detached one bedroom unit can be booked or we can sort out accommodation to suit your requirements anywhere in Paihia, Kerikeri or general trail area .

We cater to your visit to the Bay Of Islands. Your day ashore provides plenty of time for you to complete this activity.
If you would like to go for a scenic Rail Trail cycle ride through Northland countryside, we can arrange that for you.
This is a wonderful activity enjoyed by families, groups and individuals.
We pick you up when you come shore in Paihia ( at your point of landing) and after a short bus ride to the Trail, organise your cycle,helmet, and lunch (if required) and put you on the Trail.
Then when you have completed your leisurely ride,through one town and to ending in another town,we pick you up and return you to Paihia where you can usually enjoy some time before returning to your ship.
Return to Paihia is usually at around 3.00pm
We are sometimes unable to provide this service if we have an official Tour off the Cruise ship on that day.
